c.1932 Kenton, Cast Iron Jaeger Drum Type Concrete Mixer Truck

One of the many types of unusual vehicles produced by Kenton during the 1930's was this Jaeger Drum Type Concrete Mixer Truck. Two sizes were made in cast iron; 9¼" and 7½" long. This is the smaller model. It features a large nickel plated drum that revolves as the truck moves forward or reverse. A sprocket and chain connected to the drum hub and the rear axle of the truck do all the work. Or, if you prefer, it also has a large manual crank wheel on the back which will accomplish the same thing. Either way the drum works

The drum and rear support plate are nickel plated and embossed JAEGER in raised capitol letters. One side of the drum also has a removable locking door. This allows kiddies to use it as an actual mixer. Some of the nickel plating on the door appears worn, but it's shinier than the adjacent surfaces. It may be old I'm guessing that it's a replacement.

The truck was painted red which has darkened with age. Highlights such as the running board edges, headlights, and radiator cap were painted gold. All four of its white rubber tires are original to the toy. Each has a red painted wooden hub. The interior right side of the cab is embossed "Kenton Ohio" and "Kentontoys" (see below).

Size: 7½".
